WAITAK: Before their win over Canberra yesterday
Waitakere opened the scoring - Jack Dymond capitalising on a penalty. Queensland couldn't manage to score in the first, failing to utilise three 6 on 5 opportunities. Dymond was kicked out in the dying seconds, giving Queensland a chance to discuss their tactics in the break. 1-0 the score for the first.
Nick Stankovich won the swim off for Waitak, allowing his team-mate to reenter the pool. H. Grey managed to equalise for Queensland from a 6 on 5, 1-1.
An even third quarter saw the scores sit at 4-4 heading into the last quarter.
A goal and a penalty goal from Dymond and another from Theo Bailey saw Waitakere sit out to a three goal lead. A time-out from Queensland coach B. Galjaardt saw his team recollect eventually, J. Buningh scoring one to bring it to 7-5 with a minute left to play. Waitakere goalie moved to the side of the pool and was called for time wasting, letting left-hander C. Bougen score in an open goal to bring the score to 7-6, and 7-6 it stayed.
"It wasn't too bad - I guess we played well," said Waitakere Gold's Stankovich, "we probably could've done better on 6-6."
