Green and Gold clash in U18 Women's Semi

Australia Green and Australia Gold have taken on the water at West Wave this morning in the all-Aussie game-of-two-halves that was the first Under 18 Women's semi-final.

Australia Gold came out firing, with S. Hodgson opening the scoring in their first possession. The Gold girls proved that they were well drilled, with E. Jones and T. Jenkins scoring from man-up plays. First quarter 0-3 to the Gold team.

An equal second quarter saw the Green team awaken, with K. Gallaher and K. Holden scoring one each from 6 on 5s also.

Gold still managed to score two also, maintaining their three goal lead - courtesy of S. Hodgson and B. Dickie. Score 2-5 in favour of AUS Gold.

A quiet third quarter with no goals marked a shift in momentum from Gold to Green....

K. Byrnes scored through the hands of Gold goalie N. Liddle, as did Gallaher again to score her second. 4-6 with just under 4 minutes to play.
H. McWilliam scored for Green to make it 5-6 with 1:48 to go.

"Use the whole 30!" was the mantra from the Gold bench - the game-plan was to sit on their one goal lead and run the time down.

Green gained possession with 0:04 seconds left to play and called a time-out. A desperate lob from wide went over the top, and Gold prevailed over Green 5 goals to 6.
