Queensland take bronze over NSW Country in U16 Girls

Lobs and tightly pressed defence defined the bronze medal match in the 2014 Under 16 Platform Print Panasonic Pan Pacific 3rd/4th play-off.

The first quarter saw A. Hofer from NSW Country open the scoring. Queensland's R. Andrews responded with a goal, as did O. McDonald - putting two goals to her name to bring the first quarter score to 1-3.

The second half of the game saw some quality 'press no-foul' defence from both teams, with only Andrews from Queensland scoring her second to push their lead out to three. Both teams failed to execute on 6 on 5 in this quarter. 1-4 heading into the second half.

NSW's H. Wornes managed to net one, providing her team some inspiration. With a 6-5 opportunity, Queensland coach B Groves called a time-out. Her team again failed to score, letting NSW's L. Queirpel score down the other end to bring her team back into the game, 3-4 heading into the final 5.

Defence was consistent throughout this quarter also, with Queensland's D. Kenwood scoring the only goal to take her team to the end of the match as bronze medal winners, 3 goals to 5.
