Day 2 of competition saw the Hibiscus Wolves girls take it to Tauranga's B side 14-0 this morning. North Harbour A girls continue to show their prowess, beating Canberra Academy 13-3 and Mountfort Park 22-0. Canterbury Girls were able to walk away with their first win of the tournament, with a great 17-2 feat over Waitakere Teal. Tauranga A girls played with massive efforts to beat Mountfort Park 21-2 and Cook Strait Tsunamis 18-1, while Marist Red overpowered Waikato Girls 13-3.
While there have been some overpowering results, close match-ups have also been scattered throughout the competition.
The Otago girls only just walked away with the win this morning against North Harbour B in a thrilling 4-2 game, the second tier Harbour side really showing their enduring efforts.
The North Harbour B side, led by coach Ema Carevic, continues to impress as they were victorious 5 goals to 3 over the Hibiscus Wolves in their second game of the day.
Otago's afternoon game was a different story to their earlier game, however. The Southern Side convincingly beat Waitakere Gold with an impressive 9-4 victory. This Otago side has spent many years developing under coach Rose Stamm to get to the point where they are legitimate contenders for medal placings.
Although just missing out against Otago, the Waitakere Gold girls were able to scrape through 8-5 in a tough game against Waikato.
Canberra Academy Girls show team spirit as they warm up.
North Harbour A Girls focused during warm up.
Meanwhile, the Tauranga B Boys continue to illustrate immense fortitude at boys' first ever Pan Pacs Festival. They won two out of their three pool games, beating Hutt 12-2 and North Harbour B 9-5. They put up a tough fight against a poor Marist Red performance this morning, only narrowly missing out 3 goals to Marist's 6. They will, however, still go through into the quarterfinal rounds - a monumental accomplishment for any B team. There is no doubt that they will push North Harbour A Boys to their limits in their QF matchup tomorrow, but whatever the end result, these Taurnaga Boys should be playing with immense pride for an outstanding tournament thus far.
While the boys quarter finals are set to take place tomorrow, the girls will continue on with pool-play until Tuesday morning before going straight into seeded Final games on Tuesday night.
Matchups to look out for in the girls competition tomorrow include:
- Marist Red vs Waitakere Gold, 10:40am at Dio
- North Harbour A vs Tauranga A, 11:30am at Dio
