The team edged over the Tauranga/Waitakere combination 'Tau-Wai' this morning with a 13-7 win.
"They were a big strong team, quite aggressive." said Australia's Elliot Tinley.
The Aussies came up against CDM Blue in their second match in what was a similar game to their previous one. Dominant in the first half, the Australians drew out a 0-6 lead heading into the third. They let the Californian's fight back to an extent, but the Aussies were always in control. The sound of the final whistle set the scores at 6-13 in favour of the Australian Born '97s.
"To win the whole tournament is the ultimate goal I guess but this is our first time playing as a team. The other goal is to build that team up and see how well we can go."
The Australian '97s are set to play the New Zealand '96s in an exhibition game on Friday the 11th at West Wave. "Hopefully it's a good level of play - I'm really looking forward to it. We've sacrificed a lot of early mornings and 5'oclock starts, I guess it's also a big emotional sacrifice just always working - but it's worth it in the end." said Tinley.
